Dennis Glover
In celebration of the 25th birthday of Queenscourt’s weekly Lottery, the hospice’s summer raffle offered its biggest ever cash prize of £2,500 which has been won by Dennis Glover of Scarisbrick.
Mr Glover and his wife, Anne, have played the Lottery and entered the raffles for about five years, but never expected to win.
“This is a lovely windfall,“ said Mr Glover, a retired LGV driver. “I have never won anything before so this was a real surprise. When they called to tell me I had won, I even thought it was a hoax call until the lady said she was from Queenscourt.
“It has come at the perfect time as we are off on a cruise soon so this has given us some extra spending money. “
Mr and Mrs Glover, who have both survived cancer, are keen supporters of Queenscourt and the services it provides and will continue to play the Lottery and enter the raffles.
“It is not just about the chance of winning, it is about supporting the hospice,” said Mr Glover. “It’s such a good cause and it’s local, and it really is a good feeling when you win.
“I’d encourage anyone to get involved and buy a ticket because somebody has to win. Having gone through cancer, my wife and I have no hesitation in playing and supporting the hospice and we will continue to do so.”
The Lottery, along with the annual raffles, have raised more than £3m for Queenscourt hospice over the past 25 years. They provide vital funding that enables the hospice to continue delivering care and compassion to patients and their families across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire.
Judith Stewart, Queenscourt Hospice’s Fundraising and Lottery Manager, said: “Thanks to everyone who bought a ticket for our bumper raffle, the money raised stays local and is vital to ensure we can provide specialist care and support to patients and their families.
“We are delighted that Dennis and Anne have scooped their first win with us and hope the money makes their forthcoming cruise even more enjoyable.”
The Summer Raffle may be over, but you can still support Queenscourt by playing their weekly Lottery, for only £1. In addition to the top prize of £1,500 every week, there is a second prize of £100 and 20 other prizes of £20 each week.
By joining the lottery you’ll be helping to provide Queenscourt Hospice with a regular, sustainable income which allows it to plan for the future – ensuring its specialist end of life care is available now and in the future.
