Volunteering Vacancies & Applications
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Queenscourt and for wanting to support our hospice. We know your time is precious, but if you have a few hours to spare, we have a varied number of Volunteer positions within Queenscourt and we would welcome hearing from you if you think you may be suitable.
You will find any current volunteering vacancies are advertised through our social media, local newspapers and here on our website pages.
All vacancies need to be applied for through an application form and emailed to volunteers@queenscourt.org.uk or mailed to Volunteers Office, Queenscourt Hospice, Town Lane, Southport, PR8 6RE

Gardeners
Do you like being outdoors? Then you could support our team of volunteer gardeners caring for Queenscourt grounds and gardens. You would be involved in general gardening tasks (planting, weeding, cutting back, potting etc), maintaining tidy garden areas and pathways, disposing of garden waste, depending on requirements. Currently Weds 10am – 2pm
Grounds Maintenance
Would you like to help maintain Queenscourt’s grounds and gardens? We are looking for Grounds Maintenance volunteers who aren’t afraid of some physical work and use of power tools. You would be involved in clearing paths and car parks, watering borders, maintaining the garden furniture and light repair jobs.
Kitchen Assistant
Kitchen Assistants support the cooks by helping with general kitchen tasks such as organising crockery and cutlery, washing dishes and assisting with other tasks that may be required in the kitchen as per the standards required for organisational and health and safety regulations. These volunteers will also provide much needed support to the ward staff and patients by setting trays and delivering drinks to the ward. These shifts are fixed around the patient meal times accordingly.
Housekeeper (non-clinical)
Housekeepers are an integral part of Queencourt Hospice ensuring that the cleanliness of the hospice is per the standards required for organisational and health and safety regulations. We are looking for volunteers to help clean the offices and Terence Burgess Education Centre rooms.
Receptionists
Do you enjoy making people feel welcome? Are you well organised and someone who always likes to give service with a smile? If so, we would welcome your help on our Reception Desk. Our Volunteer Receptionists are the front-line for our greeting and telephone services. You would be greeting visitors to the Hospice, handling and transferring telephone calls using a small switchboard, accepting donations from supporters and accepting and recording deliveries for Queenscourt. Currently morning, afternoon, evening and weekend shifts of 2 or 4 hours between 9am and 9pm.
Charity Shop Assistant
Do you enjoy working with others? You would be meeting, greeting and assisting customers, assisting with shop window displays and keeping sales areas tidy and stocked. With till work if required. Hours to suit.
eBay Lister & Researcher Volunteer
Do you have basic computer skills with experience selling items using online platforms and would like to help out then this is the volunteer role for you, particularly if you have a specific interest in antiques, electronics etc. Hours to suit.
eBay Parcelling & Packing Volunteer
Activities may include; assisting with picking of sold items, assisting with boxing/parcelling of sold items, assisting with labelling of parcels, lifting and carrying boxes and bags.
Fundraising Collection Volunteer
Would you prefer to work with the community? Then this role would be for you, working with the Community Fundraiser and local venues, including supermarkets to increase donations and local awareness of Queenscourt Hospice. Dates and times vary
Fundraising Mascot Volunteer
Do you enjoy going to different venues? Then you would enjoy working with the Community Fundraiser to attend local fundraising events, cheque presentations and publicity opportunities – you may even be asked to attend these venues as our mascot, Queenie. Dates and times vary.
Fundraising Events Volunteer
Do you enjoy getting involved with events? You would be attending local fundraising events with a collection bucket or tin, selling raffle tickets or merchandise, looking after a stall and handing out flyers and leaflets. You would be the face of QCH locally to raise awareness of the Hospice and could be looking after our fundraising and information stands at local events. Dates and times vary.
Fundraising Ambassador Volunteer
Would you be happy talking about the Hospice to our supporters? You would work with the Community Fundraiser to attend cheque presentations on our behalf, travelling to cheque presentations and fundraising events. You would deliver talks to community groups, including faith groups, Rotary Clubs and Women’s Institute groups about the work that Queenscourt Hospice does and ways in which they can support us and help us achieve our goals. You would be the face of QCH locally to raise awareness of the Hospice and how the public can support us. Dates and times vary.
Fundraising Wedding and Celebration Volunteer
Would you enjoy getting involved in peoples’ celebrations by distributing literature at events such as wedding fayres to help raise awareness of the Hospice in our community? This role engages in the community and reaches out to new people and inspires new supporters and is FUN!

Fundraising Leaflet Drop Volunteer
Our leaflet drop volunteers are vital in supporting the fundraising team to spread the word about various events and campaignes throughout the year by sharing information with the public, we are able to continue the vital fundraising work that keeps Queenscourt Hospice services and care available.
Lottery Ambassador
Our lottery ambassadors share awareness of the lottery through word of mouth, promoting the lottery through social media posts, door dropping leaflets and by delivering leaflets to local shops, offices, community centres and other venues.
Ward Assistant
Ward Assistant volunteers will assist the ward team with clerical, telephone, household and liaison duties. These tasks are vital to enable the ward staff to give the best quality service to patients and visitors during their stay within Queenscourt.
Queenscourt Outside
Queenscourt outside volunteers work within the homes of patient referred to Specialist Palliative Care services. They will help with light household tasks, preparing snacks and drinks, light entertainment and listening and chatting with patient to provide respite for carers.
