Queenscourt Outside
Queenscourt Outside
Queenscourt provides a wide range of services to support patients and families facing the end of their lives, whether in the hospice, hospital, community or care homes across West Lancashire, Southport and Formby. Queenscourt can only do this with the assistance of our magnificent band of 700 volunteers. Although we have always been proud of the huge contribution of our volunteer workforce, we increasingly appreciate that the role of our volunteers is vital in growing and sustaining Queenscourt and the work we do in the wider community, in an economic climate in which funding is increasingly limited.
Many people wish to be at home during the last year of life rather than hospital but it can be hard for families to cope even with the help of family and friends, GP’s, District Nurses, Queenscourt at Home and other care agency support. Often it is the little things that make the difference between coping and not coping. Having no time to do the ironing, cut the grass, or being unable to leave the house to get to the dentist, hairdresser etc. can make carers feel stressed and unable to cope.
To this end, Queenscourt has launched the first phase of ‘Queenscourt Outside. We have recruited and trained a small band of volunteers, with previous experience of working in the healthcare arena whose role is to support those patients and families outside Queenscourt who are facing the end of life. We now wish to develop this service further and are looking for expressions of interest from willing volunteers. Ideally you will have had experience of working in a health or social care setting, or have experience, skills or expertise to bring to people with life shortening illness. Full education, training and on-going support will be provided.
