Carol has been a Queenscourt Trustee since 2016 and is one of our two Vice-Chairs. Normally Carol would be a frequent visitor to the hospice, along with the Chair, and the other Vice-Chair.
She would meet with Queenscourt’s Directors once a fortnight; with all the Trustees once a month and on a quarterly basis, she would make an unannounced visit to speak to staff, volunteers, patients and their families to acquire feedback on Queenscourt’s services.
Sadly, Covid-19 has meant that Carol, and the other Trustees, have not been able to come into the hospice and have had to come up with other ways of carrying out their duties.
Carol’s fortnightly meeting with the Directors is now being held via Zoom and although the first unannounced visit was postponed, an alternative approach has been taken whereby the next feedback ‘visit’ will be held on Zoom, so that anyone who wants to speak with Carol can do so, either as part of a group or privately.
“It is so important to keep in touch with everyone and offer as much support as we can,” said Carol. “It’s frustrating that I can’t go into the hospice and do more to help in a practical way, but we have been trying to adapt to how we support the Directors, staff and patients from a distance.”
