Queenscourt Connect (QCC) is an important aspect of our work here at the hospice, encompassing Day Therapy and Outpatient Services. However, Covid-19 has seen these services adapted so that they protect the patients, staff, volunteers and the wider community, while still meeting the needs of our patients, their families and carers.
Sadly, face-to-face contact in the Queenscourt building has been suspended to protect vulnerable patients and reduce risk by reducing footfall, but the team are still connecting with their Connect patients via telephone on a weekly basis.
Various activities are also offered to patients via Zoom, such as quizzes, bingo, cookery demonstrations, virtual dog walks, armchair exercises, coffee mornings and group relaxation. These are held throughout the week so as many patients as possible can get involved.
Outpatient appointments are now being carried out via a secure platform, AccuRx which is also being used for nursing assessments.
For those patients who don’t have access to Zoom or AccuRx the QCC team are sending out a monthly newsletter, so patients still feel involved and supported.
“It is vital that we maintain regular contact with all our patients, and these important adaptations have enabled us to do just that,” said Cath Ainsworth, QCC Sister.
