Dr Maarten Scholten is a Palliative Care Specialist Doctor at Queenscourt. Originally from the Netherlands, Dr Scholten was a GP for five years and has a Master’s Degree in Palliative Care.
As a specialist doctor, Dr Scholten’s work mainly involves taking care of patients in Queenscourt, and those closest to them, but also those receiving treatment outside of Queenscourt.
He also helps to train even more people on how to provide good palliative care through his teaching at the Terence Burgess Education Centre.
What makes working at Queenscourt so special? “Working in a very committed team and delivering the best care for patients with serious illnesses,” said Dr Scholten.
“We often cannot change the outcome of the disease but to see the change in patients and carers during admission is amazing. By means of good symptom control, explanation of what is going on and by just listening to their stories we can make a real difference. To see patients and carers much calmer and with less anxiety and stress then on admission is the best part of this work.”
