Queenscourt Hospice recently received a very generous donation of £1,000 from the Crossens Community Association (CCA).

The CCA, which runs the Crossens Community Centre, raised the money through several events held pre-lockdown. Normally the money would have been spent on events and days out for members of the Association, but Covid-19 restrictions have meant that these plans had to be abandoned.

The Members kindly decided instead to donate the money to a local charity, and chose Queenscourt.

Elaine Price, chairperson of the CCA, explained why. “Quite a number of people involved with the CCA have had support from Queenscourt, and my own husband Don passed away at Queenscourt two-years-ago, so we agreed that the money should go there.

“The work Queenscourt does is fantastic and it’s a real shame that their fundraising has been hit so hard by the pandemic. We decided to support the hospice as a necessary and worthwhile charity that cares for so many people in the local area.”

The CCA was formed in 1999 and has around 100 members, although it operates an open-door policy at the Community Centre, so non-members are also welcome. While the centre is currently closed due to Covid-19, the CCA committee have also been collecting money for Queenscourt via a donation bucket left in a local shop.
