Two-year-old Tess is owned by Dan and Sandra Gordon and is training to be a sniffer dog. When Dan, who has been a volunteer maintenance worker at Queenscourt for over five years, heard about the 2.6 Challenge he decided to put Tess, and her nose, to work.
Keeping with the Challenge theme, Dan hid 26 items, including pots, shoes, a watering can and beakers, around his back garden and then tasked Tess with finding two of the items which had been scented.
“When Tess does her training, she is allowed three minutes to find an item, but she was very quick on Sunday and took no time at all,” said Dan.
Tess is well known to staff at Queenscourt as, before the lockdown, Dan often brought her to the hospice for visits and he is really looking forward to when they can both return. In the meantime, Dan and Tess were happy to take part in the 2.6 Challenge for Queenscourt.
“My sister and sister-in-law were both looked after at Queenscourt and the care they received was absolutely fantastic,” said Dan. “The place is so special.”
So far Dan and Tess have raised over £840 for Queenscourt and donations can still be made at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/tess-s-2-6-challenge2020
