Queenscourt is governed by a board of Trustees; they make sure that we fulfil our objectives and adhere to the organisation’s philosophy and values. They do this by making sure that Queenscourt operates in a manner that:

  • Lets us fulfil the objectives set out in our mission Statement of Purpose
  • Uses assets and resources for charitable purposes
  • Gives due attention to charitable and company law
  • Adheres to the organisation’s philosophy and values
  • Upholds the reputation of the organisation.

Mr Christopher Leather is the Chairman of Queenscourt Hospice and has been a trustee since 2006.He is a retired engineer and he serves on the Investment Committee, Fundraising Steering Group, the Building Committee and the Succession Committee.

Vice-Chair of Trustees & Hon. Life President
Dr Peter A Downham is Vice-Chair of Trustees & Hon. Life President and has been a trustee since 1997. He served as Chairman for nine years standing down in 2012. He is a retired General Practitioner and serves on the Investment Committee, Fundraising Steering Group and the Succession Committee.

Vice-Chair of Trustees

Joining our board of trustees in 2016, Carol Bernard is a retired health professional with many years of experience working as a Nurse in the field of mental health care. She is passionate about patient care and loves to hear about the experiences and views of everyone who has come into contact with Queenscourt. She also sits on our Visiting Group and Integrated Board of Governance.

Treasurer

Paul has been Volunteer Treasurer since April 2015. He has retired from his career as an accountant and financial officer in local government, which he did for over 40 years.

Chair of Retail and Enterprises

Margaret has been a Trustee since 2004. For 20 years she ran her own north west marketing and PR agency before retiring in 2015. She now works as a marketing consultant. She also serves as chair of the Retail and Enterprise Boards.

Director of Retail

Ms Yvonne Burns became a trustee in 2012 and she manages a retail centre within Southport.

David Unwin
David Unwin

Dr David Unwin has been a trustee since 2004 and is a General Practitioner. He serves on the Integrated Governance group.

Tom Fairclough
Tom Fairclough

Mr Tom Fairclough has been a trustee since 2009 and is a Commissioning Manager within the NHS in Liverpool. He serves on the Visiting Group.

Steve Simpson
Steve Simpson

Mr Stephen Simpson became a trustee in 2010. He has previously worked within the local palliative care services as a Specialist Palliative Care Pharmacist employed by Sefton PCT and is now working at Bolton General Hospice as Head of Pharmacy. He also sits on our Risk Management Committee.

Richard Jacklin
Richard Jacklin

Mr Richard Jacklin became a trustee in 2011. He is a solicitor and notary in private practice and he has recently been elected to serve on the Investment Committee.

Geraldine Boocock
Geraldine Boocock
Geraldine began her career studying Medicine at Manchester Med School and retired in 2013 as the Medical Director of Southport & Ormskirk Trust. She joined our board in 2016, possessing a keen professional interest in palliative care. Geraldine is also a volunteer at the Ormskirk Foodbank and a director of Burscough Community Farm.
Anthony Crewe

Anthony Crewe was appointed a Trustee of Queenscourt in October 2016. He has worked for HM Revenue & Customs for almost thirty years and has lived in Southport for over a decade, currently residing in Birkdale with his wife, children & four cats. Away from Queenscourt Anthony is a big football fan and a proud owner of a Blackburn Rovers season ticket.
Ann Throp
Ann Throp
Ann Throp retired from her role as Director of Non Clinical Services with us in 2013. Previously Ann worked at the hospice as our Hospice Administrator and as a trustee on the staffing sub committee in the early 90's, prior to the opening of Queenscourt. Ann has over 20 years of experience in HR and management roles across the NHS. She also serves as a member of the visiting group
Martin Abrams
Martin Abrams
The Rev Martin Abrams is chaplain for the Southport and Ormskirk Trust. He is also the Freedom to Speak Up Guardian.  Martin was born and brought up in Southport, attending school at Norwood Road Primary and Meols Cop High, later attending Cliff College, a Methodist lay training college and studying for a masters degree in pastoral studies at Cardiff University.
