Queenscourt’s popular mascot, Queenie, will be taking to the road again this year and hopes to visit more schools and help educate even more children about the invaluable work that Queenscourt provides at the hospice and out in the community. We recognise how important it is to engage with the younger generation which is why we are asking nurseries and primary schools throughout Southport, Formby and West Lancashire, to get in touch if they would like a visit from Queenie and members of our Fundraising Team this year.
The Queenscourt team will give a free presentation to schools in Southport, Formby and across West Lancashire. Queenie will then return to the school later in the year for Sports Day, where she will cheer pupils on. All we ask in return is that schools support Queenscourt in some small way, by organising a sponsored activity or their own fundraising events. Last year participating schools came up with some great initiatives, which included sponsored fun runs and obstacle courses. Other schools sold food and drinks at their sports days with the proceeds going to Queenscourt.
“We find that children are delighted to welcome Queenie and really enjoy the fundraising aspect. However, the real emphasis is on them learning about Queenscourt Hospice with Queenie being the key symbol for their learning,” said Rachel Kennedy, Community Fundraiser at Queenscourt.
Last year we were supported by hundreds of school children who helped raise over £5,000 for Queenscourt. Queenie proved a big hit with the children, with many of them recognising her at some of our other events such as the Birkdale Christmas Fair and our Santa Sprint.
As Queenie and her team prepare to take to the road again, the hope is that more schools will sign up to the initiative and help raise our profile and much needed funds while also spreading the word about our vital work. Rachel added: “Leading up to our Pearl Anniversary next year we would love to have more and more schools on board, not just with Queenie’s Roadshow, but with other fundraising initiatives that they might like to be involved with. We can support them and help them with any fundraising ideas they have.”
To book a visit from Queenie’s Roadshow, all schools need to do is call on 01704 517420 and speak with one of our Fundraising Team.
