The new year has got off to a great start for one lucky Queenscourt supporter after actor David Lonsdale picked her ticket in the draw for our annual Winter Raffle. Joan Crumbleholme from Burscough is now the proud owner of a Suzuki Celerio car worth almost £8,000 which was generously donated to Queenscourt by Chapelhouse Motor Group in Southport. A retired district nurse, who worked across West Lancashire, Joan has supported Queenscourt’s weekly Lottery since 2010 and has also bought tickets for our twice-yearly raffles during that time. Joan couldn’t believe her luck when told that former Heartbeat actor, David, had picked her ticket in the raffle draw, which took place in front of 350 families dressed as Santa at the start of our Santa Sprint last month.
“I really couldn’t believe it when we got the call to say I’d won the car,” she said. “I was just speechless – I honestly thought it was a wind up! I feel very, very lucky to have won.” Joan doesn’t buy her Lottery and Raffle tickets to win, but to support Queenscourt, which needs over £4million a year to continue providing an exceptional level of care to patients and their families across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire, when they need it the most. “As a former district nurse, I have great admiration for the wonderful service that Queenscourt delivers for the local community,” added Joan. “I believe it is vitally important to support the charity as, in my opinion, the people of West Lancashire, would be lost without the wonderful support and services that Queenscourt Hospice provides.”
Judith Stewart, Fundraising and Lottery Manager at Queenscourt, said: “We’re delighted with the success of this year’s car raffle, which has raised tens of thousands of pounds for Queenscourt. We’d like to thank everyone who bought a ticket and showed their support. We hope Joan enjoys her new car, it’s great to see her so excited about winning it and wonderful to hear of her support for Queenscourt over the years! “We’d also like to thank our sponsors Chapelhouse Motor Group, who have supported the car raffle by donating the Suzuki Celerio. This fantastic gift has proved really popular with our raffle ticket buyers and means we have been able to raise a bumper amount of money from the 2019 Winter Raffle Draw.” Tamsin Reed, Group Marketing Manager at Chapelhouse, added: “We’re delighted to have been able to contribute and help Queenscourt Hospice raise vital funds. We’re proud that the money raised will go towards continuing the tremendous work and support Queenscourt Hospice offers to the Southport, Formby and West Lancashire areas.”
